LAW-6320 ADVANCED LEGAL RESEARCH

White Collar Crime can be intricate and bears, at times, a distant relation to "gun, drug, and violent" crimes. The congressional agenda changes and different activities are re-classified as crimes and the elements of each are tweaked (or created, or removed) by the legislature and the courts with something approaching abandon. The fundamentals, however, have a long shelf life and provide a strong foundation for understanding the changes, issues, and trends in this dynamic area of practice. The purpose of this course is to teach you the fundamentals of White Collar Crime, from both the prosecution and defense sides. You will have a useful awareness of how federal white collar criminal law impinges on practically everything that goes on in our society and economy and have a grasp of the key concepts that are of wide application and importance.
