Master of Science in Leadership and Innovation

Mission Statement

The Master of Science in Leadership and Innovation degree program provides key skills and competencies for current and aspiring organization leaders, public service managers, social entrepreneurs, and higher education administrators to become change agents for innovation within their organizations. The ability to lead an organization towards innovation, growth, and sustainability is in high demand, and these competencies are necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities that organizations face in today’s world. This degree program provides a framework for critical leadership competencies, covering project management, innovation, entrepreneurship, information technology, and values and ethics.

Program Goals

The program goals of the M.S. in Leadership and Innovation provide a framework for advanced-level skills and competencies in leadership, innovation, technology, strategic management, and organizational innovation. The Master of Science in Leadership and Innovation is designed for working professionals across public, private, non-profit organizations and postsecondary educational institutions.  The curriculum prepares individuals to assume leadership roles and implement organizational learning practices through the lens of innovation, technology, and research toward sustainability in an ever-changing, competitive world.  The program goals of the MS in Leadership and Innovation prepare students to:

  • Construct a framework for the administration and leadership of organizations or post-secondary institutions, focusing on structures and innovative entrepreneurial practices to navigate challenges while creating a culture for change and sustainability.

  • Develop an innovative vision for integrating technology throughout the organization or post-secondary institution for a global-oriented workplace.

  • Understand research methods and their applicability in designing and conducting organizational improvement through data collection and analysis.

  • Identify leadership theories or concepts and how these differ based on the organizational mission and culture.

Student Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of the M.S. in Leadership and Innovation program, graduates should be able to:

Executive Leadership Specialization Student Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze the importance of collaborative service to both the local and global community through evaluation of social and organizational problems and the application of creative solutions;

  • Evaluate ethical and social justice issues faced by the modern organization coupled with the administrative leadership and resources required to effectively deal with these challenges;

  • Analyze the significance of an inclusive community in the workplace characterized by interdependence, dignity and equality, compassion, and respect for self and others;

  • Synthesize knowledge of administrative and leadership concepts, theories, models, and techniques within the broad social, economic, ethical, technical, and political environments related to all types of organizations; and

  • Apply academic research methods to analyze, synthesize, and effectively manage knowledge in the workplace.

Higher Education Administration Specialization Student Learner Outcomes

  • Project societal and political trends for the future of higher education and make necessary administrative decisions based upon this knowledge;

  • Apply human relations and leadership skills in diagnosing and resolving conflict within the institution;

    • Analyze major organizational models in order to choose structures and procedures appropriate to higher education organizations;
    • Apply appropriate change models to higher educational institutional design;
    • Design appropriate research methodologies to administrative issues; and
    • Understand the role higher education has played, continues to play, and will play in American society.

Graduation Requirements

  • Successful completion of the stated number of required semester hours for the program.
  • Obtain an overall GPA of 3.0 with no more than two Cs.
  • Seven (7) years are permitted to complete degree requirements from the date of initial matriculation.
