SW-619 ADV CLINICAL PRACTICE FAMILIES

This concentration year course provides an in-depth study of family interventions aimed at promoting well-being through the use of a trauma informed framework for practice that attends to the impact of oppression and marginalization on the wellbeing of family systems. The course integrates anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) perspectives across readings, activities, and assignments. Students develop competencies in various family-centered approaches used in trauma-informed social work practice. Family-centered strategies are drawn from a variety of theoretical perspectives and include skills that mitigate the effects of trauma and oppression while building resilience; serve diverse clients with attention to their unique needs; enhance the strength and resourcefulness of families; respond to families' needs across a range of professional, social, and political contexts; and can be used to critically evaluate the fit and effectiveness of family interventions.
