Student and Family Engagement
The Department of Student and Family Engagement fosters an inclusive and connected campus community by providing opportunities for student involvement, leadership development, campus engagement, and family participation. Through programs, advising, and campus traditions, the department supports students as they transition to Barry University, develop meaningful connections, and become active members of the university community.
The department’s primary areas of support include:
New Student Orientation and Transition Programs
Welcoming new students and their families to Barry University and providing programs and resources that support a successful transition into the university community.
First-Year Experience
Supporting students during their first year through transition initiatives, educational programming, and collaborative campus resources designed to encourage academic and personal success.
Student Organizations and Involvement
Providing advising, training, and administrative support to registered student organizations and helping students identify opportunities to become involved on campus.
Student Leadership Development
Offering leadership development opportunities through programs such as the Emerging Leaders Program, student leader training, and leadership workshops.
Student Councils and Programming Boards
Advising the Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Commuter Student Council, and Student Organizations Council to promote student representation, campus programming, and community engagement.
Campus Activities and University Traditions
Collaborating with students and campus partners to coordinate programs and signature events such as Week of Welcome, Homecoming, FLASH Community Fest, Festival of Nations, Spring Fling, and other opportunities for campus connection.
Commuter Student Engagement
Providing programs, resources, and involvement opportunities that help commuter students connect with the Barry community and participate fully in campus life.
Parent and Family Engagement
Keeping parents and families informed and connected through Family Orientation, communications, and educational resources.
Student and Family Engagement encourages students to explore their interests, strengthen their leadership abilities, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to the Barry University community.
