Honors Program
The Barry University Honors Program is designed to to engage highly motivated students in an intellectually rigorous curriculum and co-curricular program to prepare them for success in their future endeavors. The Honors Program provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary curriculum in which they will analyze problems, synthesize theories and actions, and evaluate issues facing our complex society. Through the Honors Program, students will engage in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including service-learning, conference presentations, and cultural experiences to enhance their learning beyond the classroom and embracing an inclusive community.
Purpose of the Honors Curriculum
The Honors Program curriculum is designed to create scholars who will:
- Develop effective written and oral communication skills.
- Analyze and synthesize a broad range of material.
- Become confident critical thinkers who use knowledge and logic when discussing issues and ideas.
- Create and execute an intensive research project.

Admission to the Honors Program
To join the Honors Program as a first-year student, students must meet one of the following criteria:
- Test-Score Pathway:
- Attain a minimum combined SAT score of 1310 or ACT score of 28; AND
- Attain a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.7
- Test-Optional Pathway:
- Attain a minimum high school unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.7
To join the Honors Program as a transfer student, students must:
- Attain a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA from a regionally accredited university
- Students with 60 or more transfer credits qualify to complete the Honors Program with 12 credits
To join the Honors Program as a current Barry student, students must:
- Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in your first year at Barry; AND
- Complete the Honors Program application and admissions essay
Barry Honors Scholarship
The Barry Honors Scholarship (BHS) is awarded to eligible students who meet the following criteria:
- Must be an active member of the Honors Program
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Attend at least two Honors Program events per semester
- Enrollment in at least one Honors course per academic year
- Submission of Senior Project Proposal at least two semesters prior to graduation
- Enrolled at Barry as a full-time undergraduate student (this requires enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits per semester)
