Ministry and Community Outreach
In the Adrian Dominican and Catholic tradition, Ministry and Community Outreach invites and encourages all members of the Barry Community to spiritual transformation through the deepening of their relationship with their God and their neighbors. Ministry and Community Outreach forms Barry students to receive their communities through service, reflect on the God in all things and our care for others, and respond with celebration, solidarity, and advocacy.
Through the journey of believing, belonging, and becoming, Ministry and Community Outreach fosters the spiritual growth of Barry University within a diverse and inclusive religious and spiritual context. We prioritize inclusive spaces for authentic relationships rooted in hospitality, pastoral support, and human dignity. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, we also form and promote the service-leadership approach for student success, with an emphasis on kinship with the most vulnerable and marginalized.
All students of the Barry Community are invited to determine a fitting response to the presence of God in their lives, regardless of religion or spiritual background. For more information, please contact us at mco@barry.edu or visit us in Thompson 211 Monday through Friday, between 9:00a.m. and 5:00p.m.
Worship and Celebration Schedule
During the academic year, we hold a weekly Community Mass on Sundays and a daily Mass Monday through Friday.
Our Community Mass on Sundays begins at 11:00 A.M. in the Cor Jesu Chapel.
Our Daily Mass is celebrated Monday through Friday at 12:00 P.M. in the Cor Jesu Chapel.
Masses at Barry are celebrated in the Catholic tradition and all faith traditions are invited to participate in our communal prayer service. Ministry and Community Outreach oversees the sacramental life of the Barry community by celebrating special university wide liturgies, such as the Baccalaureate Mass, and administering OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) and other Catholic sacraments, such as Reconciliation, Baptism, and Matrimony. Please contact us for information regarding the guidelines for receiving the sacraments.
We are committed to encouraging spiritual transformation of all students, regardless of faith background. Non-Catholic students are encouraged to meet with MCO staff about their spiritual needs, such as scripture study, prayer spaces, or holy day celebrations. In partnership with the Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library, there is also a dedicated prayer room for individual, and small group prayer in the library.
