Immigration Studies
The minor in Immigration Studies (21 credits) is offered by the College of Arts and Sciences. It is available to all undergraduate students. It requires completion of three 3-credit core courses: HIS 309, HUM 397, SOC 352 and four 3-credit elective courses from a list of approved elective courses. The minor is grounded in a multidisciplinary framework and principles of inclusivity, justice, and equity to highlight the unique contribution of immigrants and the historical, social, cultural, political, psychological factors that shape their immigration experience. Students in the minor can engage in experiential learning activities focused on immigration, immigrants, or immigrant experiences like faculty-mentored research under the supervision of faculty affiliated with the Institute of Immigration Studies. The minor brings together academic knowledge from various disciplines to 1) facilitate students’ personal and social responsibility, 2) expand academic knowledge beyond that of their primary discipline and 3) prepare students for entry-level positions or advanced training in diverse fields that address immigration, migration, diverse population, and public service.
