General Studies (B.A.)

The College of Arts and Sciences offers a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies as follows:

Degree Requirements (120 credits)

University General Education Requirements (42 credits)

Major Area Concentration (45 credits)

The General Studies major concentration can be selected from one of the five curricular areas noted below:

Communication

Courses in communication studies, English (200 level and above; non-literature courses), speech (excluding SPE-105).

Theology and Philosophy

All courses

Humanities and Fine Arts

Courses in art, dance, foreign languages, humanities, literature, music, photography, theatre

Science and Math

Courses in biology, chemistry (excluding CHE-095), math (excluding MAT-091 and MAT-095), computer science, physics

Behavioral and Social Sciences

courses in anthropology, criminology, geography, history, political science, psychology, sociology

 

The minimum grade of C is required in all courses in the areas of concentration. To fulfill degree requirements upper level courses must total 48 hours, of which at least 30 hours must be in the area of concentration. Students must complete an integrative experience consisting of LIB-487 which is not included in the 30 upper level hours in the concentration.

There are no minors awarded to students in the General Studies major. Additionally a minor in “General Studies” is not available.
