LLM-5776 FUNDAMENTALS OF AMERICAN LAW FUNDAMENTALS OF AMERICAN LAW
Fundamentals of American Law will provide an in-depth overview of substantive and structural law of the United States to international LL.M. students. We will examine the U.S. system of government, sources of law, federal and state judicial systems, and the Constitution and its history and provisions, focusing on federalism, separation of powers, and the constitutional amendments. We will also spend time on legal methodology, the adversary system of justice, the history of the legal profession, and the structure of the court system. From there, we will discuss other broad legal concepts that you will encounter in future classes: including but not limited to civil and criminal procedure, administrative law, and family law.
