Center for Counseling and Psychological Services

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services provides psychological services to registered students experiencing personal issues that interfere with their academic performance, personal development, and sense of well-being. The services offered by the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services help students address emotional concerns, come to a greater understanding of themselves, and develop effective strategies for dealing with life’s challenges. Services are not only for students experiencing difficulties, but also for those who are striving for self-improvement.

Counselors are available to treat a wide-variety of mental health concerns including, but not limited to academic concerns, trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. With a few legal exceptions, counseling services are protected by law and are strictly confidential. Counseling services are provided with no extra fee to currently enrolled Barry University undergraduate and graduate students. When requested or appropriate, referrals are made to the Center’s consulting psychiatrist; there is a fee for psychiatric appointments.

Walk-in appointments are available for students experiencing a mental health crisis requiring immediate attention during regular business hours. If there is a psychological crisis after–hours, resident students may contact the Resident Assistant on duty to reach an on–call counselor. The Center for Counseling and Psychological Center also offers workshops and campus events to help educate and increase awareness on a variety of topics pertaining to college mental health and academic success.
