Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Acknowledgement and Pledge

COVID-19 Acknowledgement

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. The state of medical knowledge is evolving, but the virus is extremely contagious and is known to spread from person-to-person contact, through the air, as well as from touching the eyes, nose and mouth with hands that have the virus on them. The scientific and medical community report that people can be infected and show no symptoms and therefore spread the disease unknowingly. There is limited treatment available, with three vaccinations approved for emergency use shown to be highly effective in preventing COVID-19 and developing severe illness. It is still unclear how long vaccinations remain effective, or even if they will protect against future virus variants. Evidence has shown that COVID-19 can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illness and even death.

COVID-19 is a widespread virus/disease, and due to its general spread within the community, the student body, employees and general population who are not vaccinated are at greater risk. Barry University cannot prevent you from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while utilizing Barry University’s services or premises. It is not possible to completely prevent the presence of the disease. Therefore, if you choose to utilize Barry University’s services and/or enter onto Barry University’s premises (owned or leased) you may be exposing yourself to and/or increasing your risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. These risks may be increased if you choose not to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I understand that by agreeing to attend classes, partake of any services or activities, or otherwise come onto campus or any property leased or owned by Barry University, I assume all risks attendant thereto, including the risk of contracting COVID-19.
